Quiz Bowls

The City-wide Black History Quiz Bowl hosted by Preparing Our Youth Foundation in collaboration with Beta Kappa Kappa Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. The purpose of the Black History Quiz Bowl, is to help educate students about the rich history of African American culture, as well as to motivate them to research and learn more about local history, US history and Black culture.

Students are quizzed and educated on essential African American history that is age appropriate. The winner of the competition will compete in the Omega’s virtual state competition in March or travel to Winston Salem State University for
a face to face competition. The winner of the state competition will travel to Durham, NC to compete in the Sixth District (North Carolina and South Carolina) competition in May. In recognition, each student competing will receive a certificate of participation and a commemorative item. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams will receive monetary awards. In addition the winning team will receive autographed copies of the “Our Roots, Our Branches, Our fruits of Knowledge” by Mr. Glenn R. Chavis. Refreshments will also be provided for all competing students. We would like to thank all parents and educators in advance for working hard to prepare each student for this competition.
